Brad Reed's Day 277 of 365
Not far from Roselawn, Indiana on County Road 1000 there is a full-size John Deere tractor that sits atop a silo. Julia and I pulled into the farmer's yard for a closer look. The clouds and sky were perfect for a photograph.

Todd Reed's Day 280 of 365
I have been trying to make an image of this tunnel of trees near the Conrad family farm at the east end of Conrad Road for several years. This evening, on my way home from a United Way fundraising event, I round the corner from Gordon Road and there it is, the picture I had envisioned for so long.

Todd Reed's Day 281 of 365
Kevin and Nancy Hansen's farm on Victory Drive was one of several farms on this year's Mason County Barn Tour. I am attracted to one of many farm implements on display that were used for several decades by Kevin's grandfather.

Todd Reed's Day 283 of 365
A Sunday ride on an autumn afternoon is one of the best things about Michigan. I stop to take a picture of my favorite tunnel of trees at the Polcin farm on Conrad Road. Cheryl Swinehart and Boyd Stark crest a hill on a bicycle ride as I am shooting.

Brad Reed's Day 283 of 365
My dad is the master of making great art from old abandoned houses. I have photographed a few, but never had the same kind of success. When Betsy spotted this scene on south Stiles Road near Marrison Avenue, I instantly knew that the game was on between my dad and me.

Todd Reed's Day 284 of 365
I love the rolling hills between Hart and New Era along the US 31 Freeway. Today as my nephew Ryan and I head to Grand Rapids for ArtPrize, I have to stop to photograph this farm surrounded by fall color.

Todd Reed's Day 287 of 365
I don't know what looks more impressive, the long-horned, longhaired cow or the brilliantly colored sumac along 72nd Avenue near Hart, so I decide to feature both. The Highland cow's long coat, besides being gorgeous, will keep it warm during the winter.

Brad Reed's Day 288 of 365
My dad and I had spotted this old house and the rolling fruit fields in fall color the day before when we were taking a drive and looking for photographs. The light was too harsh so we didn't even stop. This morning, however, the light was perfect.

On the Deck
A crop dusting plane looks like it is about to land in a Michigan farm field. I admire the pilot's skill and nerve as he deftly maneuvers around trees and utility lines to be able to spray entire fields along the Mason-Oceana county line.

Home Grown
I hope everyone gets an opportunity someday to see Michigan farms and homesteads from above. The view today of this majestic farm in Eastern Mason County near the Pere Marquette River made me proud to be a Michigander.

Rachel Gaudette’s Day 297 of 366 - October 23, 2020
After I dropped the kids off to their dad for his weekend, I drove home from Hart the backway, through Pentwater. On my way there, on Lake Road, I came across this field of overgrown asparagus. I’ve always liked the way that it looks! The grain in the wood of this barn was the perfect subject to place with it. The hardest part was steadying the tripod against the wind!
Country Tour
Bicycle tours are a great way to see Michigan and get a lot of exercise in the process. Participants in the Standale Baptist Church summer bike tour pedal through the West Michigan countryside en route to Ludington on a sunny summer morning.

Mick
Michigan is a horse-lovers state. With more than 150,000 horses owned by Michiganders, it is no wonder that an appearance of the Budweiser Clydesdales in West Michigan is a major attraction. Today the Clydesdale East Coast Team has arrived at the Mason County Fairgrounds. Before the week is out, tens of thousands of people will have the opportunity to view Mick and the rest of the eight-horse hitch. I am excited to get this sneak peek before their public appearances in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Ludington Beverage. The company has been owned and operated by my grandparents, parents and currently by my brother, Budde.

Brad Reed's Day 302 of 365
The sweeping clouds of October darken the foreground of this scene, while the golden light of sunrise peeks through a break in the clouds. I love the dramatic light of October, especially in Michigan.

Sunshine
Nothing brightens my photographic day more than finding sunflowers in the Michigan countryside. We got tipped off about a stand of sunflowers growing at the Stakenas farm on US31 north of Scottville. The afternoon backlighting gives the sunflowers translucent brilliance and definition.

Hay Day
Warren Weaver finishes cutting another row of hay with his giant John Deere chopper on an August afternoon. The Stakenas farm is one of the biggest farming operations in West Michigan. The Stakenas family has been farming their land north of Scottville, Michigan for several generations.

Timeless Beauties
While taking back roads up to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore tonight, we drove by this old McCormick-Deering tractor. I had my dad turn the Suburban around so I could hop out and make this photograph. Both the tractor and the massive old maple tree are timeless beauties. I wonder which one is older?

Stakenas Sunflower
Local knowledge and connections are invaluable when it comes to outdoor photography. One of the Stakenas boys from Scottville passed word onto us that they had some beautiful sunflowers growing on their land across the road from their farm on US31. Luckily for us, the first attempt turned out great because of the gorgeous light hitting the sunflowers.

Brad’s Day 312 of 366 - November 7, 2020
I wish I knew the story behind this abandoned home on First Street in Scottville, Michigan. Tonight, the light was hitting the tops of the surrounding trees and the upper story of the old homestead. Normally, when I see this house, it looks haunted and a bit scary. On this night it looked beautiful and gave me a sense of hope..
