Brad Reed\'s Day 325 of 365
Brad Reed's Day 325 of 365
We spent the entire day in Grand Rapids and I forgot my camera. When Betsy and I rolled back into Ludington at 9:00 P.M. it was dark and rainy and I noticed the neon sign from Shop-N-Save creating awesome designs on the Orchard Market greenhouse across the road on Old US 31. I came back with my camera. F5.6 at 5.0, ISO 400, 18-50 mm lens at 50 mm

Brad Reed's Day 326 of 365
One of the windows was broken out of a building on South James Street in Ludington. By getting as close as I could with my 70-200 mm lens I was able to show the detail in the glass as well as make the inside of the building disappear. I love this photograph. Todd Reed's Day 334 of 365 - November 30, 2010
After stopping at Ludington State Park to congratulate retiring Park Manager Dan Flaherty on his fine career, I have headed further into the park to look for a picture on a dark, rainy day. I like the view looking straight down while standing on this leaning tree trunk. F4.0 at 1/40, ISO 400, 12-24 mm lens at 12 mm

It is that time of year again when Mother Nature makes fudge ripple ice cream along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. At least that is what I always thought it looked like as a kid. Now I need to go to House of Flavors and get some of that yummy ice cream! F11.0 at 0.8, ISO 100, 18-50 mm lens at 38 mm

Brad Reed's Day 344 of 365
While giving a private photo lesson this afternoon at Ludington State Park, tall pine trees reflecting in the Sable River got my attention. I also liked how the river bottom was adding to this composition. F2.8 at 1/60, ISO 400, 14 mm lens at 14 mm

Brad Reed's Day 354 of 365
Photographing ice formations has always been one of my favorite things to do with my camera. The bright sunlight to the east this morning, combined with the dark clouds to the west, made for a glorious opportunity to create strong images along the channel inside Ludington Harbor. Brad Reed's Day 358 of 365
Sitting in my living room during a family Christmas gathering, I noticed how these icicles looked like a hand and fingers. I set the camera to a slower shutter speed to capture the dripping water coming off the pinky finger. F16.0 at 0.3, ISO 100, 70-200 mm lens at 200 mm

Like a wake board shooting through the waves, an autumn leaf surfs over the water in the rapids beneath Munising Falls in Munising, Michigan. F8 at 1/6, ISO 100, 80-200mm lens at 200mm

I am hoping to catch the sun setting over St. Joseph Lighthouse. Clouds change my plan. The sun peeks out beneath the clouds just in time for the Young Flight sculpture at St. Joseph beach to catch the light. I think the sculpture by Gail Mally-Mack and the backdrop by Mother Nature complement each other. F22 at 2.5 seconds, ISO 100, 14-24mm lens at 14mm

The soft glow of light following a light rainfall makes a wet rock shine and catch my eye along the Lake Michigan shoreline at Van Buren State Park. Closer investigation reveals this to be a very colorful rock. After getting my camera and tripod set up, I try for 15 minutes to catch a wave just right. Finally, I have what I was looking for. Sea Saw - Panoramic
Sea Saw - Panoramic
As I was composing this photograph I noticed that the repetitive patterns created by this seawall in Monroe, Michigan looked like the teeth of a saw. It was at that moment that I decided I should name this photograph "Sea Saw." F22 at 3 seconds, ISO 100, 70-200mm lens at 105mm

Looking down from atop one of the highest spots in the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, I see S-curves of sand across the dunescape below. My mind starts playing tricks on me. I know it is only a mirage, but I imagine these patterns looking like tracks my sons and I have made in powder snow while downhill skiing on mountain slopes. Wind Creation
Wind Creation
It never ceases to amaze me how the wind can shape sand dunes into the most impressive works of art. I have hiked up and down the Silver Lake Sand Dunes for a couple hours before finding this spot. I immediately know that all that effort was more than worth the reward of this visual treat. F18 at 1/80, ISO 100, 24-70mm lens at 31mm

I have loved skiing moguls since I was a young kid, especially in Colorado where the moguls are often as large as cars. The shapes in this image aren't moguls, but rather snow patterns in a few inches of fresh powder in the parking area near the train bridge in Freesoil. F22 at 1/5, ISO 100, 18-50mm lens at 50mm

Dream Ride
I can't help but imagine myself aboard the snowmobile that made this track. It appears to fade out of sight due to the "blizzard" being created by several dozen snowmaking machines in operation at Caberfae Peaks. The Northern Michigan ski area near Cadillac, Michigan opened for its first season in 1938. F22 at 1/1250, ISO 100, 300mm lens at 300mm

The canal connecting Lake Cadillac and Lake Mitchell is frozen over on this November morning. The new ice is shiny and frosted. As I walk along the canal at William Mitchell State Park in Cadillac searching for pictures to make, the reflection of a nearby yield sign comes into view. The reflection looks to me like a beautiful glass Christmas ornament. F22 at 1/2000, ISO 800, 300mm lens at 300mm

My very first shot of Week 1 of the Tuesdays Project was of wind-blown sand sculptures at Silver Lake State Park. So it felt fitting that my very last shot of the Tuesdays Project would be of wind-blown sand at Stearns Park in Ludington. Thanks for following along each week and for making "Tuesdays with Todd and Brad Reed: A Michigan Tribute" a wonderful journey to complete. F22 at 2 seconds, ISO 100, 70-200mm lens at 200mm
