Big Sable Point Lighthouse
Time Tested
Big Point Sable Lighthouse has stood the test of time. The date above the exterior door tells the story of her age. The tower itself looks remarkably preserved during the 140th birthday celebration held on Oct. 27, 2007 by its caretakers
Brad Reed's Day 101 of 365
Today was Ethan's first visit to Big Sable Point Lighthouse inside Ludington State Park. In between the handfuls of sand that he was eating, Ethan would momentarily pause and let me document his big day in front of the historic structure.

Brad Reed's Day 180 of 366 - June 28, 2020
Hiking to Big Sable Point Lighthouse is always one of my favorite pastimes. My family and I enjoyed many laughs and stories on the hike to and from the iconic lighthouse today.
Todd Reed's Day 194 of 365
Brad and I put on another of our annual photography tips programs at Big Sable Lighthouse this evening and within a half-hour of its conclusion nearly everyone is gone. Brad and his daughter Julia head up to the top of the light to check out the view from the top while I stay below and wait for the sweet light. Here it is!

On Point
I walked as far west of Big Sable Point Lighthouse on land as I could tonight to make this photograph of the historic structure. When you view a map of the state of Michigan, you can see why they named this lighthouse Big Sable Point. Both Big and Little Sable points stick farther out into Lake Michigan than any other points of land in the lower peninsula of Michigan.

The Closing of a Great Tuesdays Adventure
Today has been one of the most fun Tuesday adventures of the year so far. We started with a world-class sunrise, then went up in an airplane and photographed the Pere Marquette River. Next we went photo hunting by boat at the Ludington State Park for bald eagles and we followed that by photographing the Budweiser Clydesdales. To top the night off we end with a gorgeous sunset at Big Sable Point Lighthouse. How can you not love days like this in Michigan?

From the Shadows
The fast moving clouds kept changing the landscape in front of my camera this afternoon atop a tall sand dune just south of the Beach House at the Ludington State Park. After studying the clouds and light for a few minutes, I realized that I could make my photograph of Big Sable Point Lighthouse look more three-dimensional if I shot from the shadows into the sunlight.

Brad’s Day 366 of 366 - December 31, 2020
I was at complete peace being the only human out at Big Sable Point Lighthouse tonight to shoot the last sunset of 2020. It has been a challenging year for most people around the world, but it has also proven to be an incredibly beautiful and wonderful year. I ended the year at my favorite place on Earth. I always feel at home at Big Sable.
Topside View
The shadow of the 112-foot-tall Big Point Sable Lighthouse is cast on dune land north of the lighthouse. The pristine view northward from atop the light tower reveals part of the thousands of acres of protected state and federal land along the Lake Michigan shoreline north of the lighthouse.
Brad Reed's Day 152 of 366
This was the most colorful sunset I have ever had the pleasure of photographing at Big Sable Point Lighthouse. The afterglow just kept getting better and better. With all the craziness going on in the world right now, it felt amazing to be isolated at my favorite lighthouse photographing Mother Nature at her best!
Big Point Sable
The sand dunes at Big Point Sable were formed several thousand years ago. Wind and water have been changing them ever since. I took this aerial photograph more than 20 years ago, when rising Lake Michigan water levels were threatening to wash Big Point Sable Lighthouse away. Most of the ponds visible between dunes in this scene were dry when I last explored this region.
