The Island Way
Fudge, bicycles, and horses can be seen nearly everywhere in the Mackinac Island business district. What you won't see are automobiles. People flock to Mackinac Island to experience its slower pace and its yesteryear appearance and way of life.
Grand Vantage - Panoramic
The grand porch of the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island affords hotel visitors and guests one of the grandest views imaginable of the Straits of Mackinac and the Mackinac Bridge. Today I am most impressed with how the light and shadow are playing on the columns extending across the porch.

A Grand View
The ferryboat ride to Mackinac Island is a good opportunity to capture some unique views of the Grand Hotel. My favorite part of this composition is the great cloud formation above the island.

Water Taxi
The main way to get to Mackinac Island is by ferry. The Shepler's ferry, The Hope, cruises abeam the ferry Brad and I are shooting photographs from as we travel back to Mackinaw City. In the background an Arnold Line ferry heads for Mackinac Island. The Grand Hotel stands out on the island.

Long Laker - Panoramic
The 1004-foot-long Edwin H. Gott steams past Round Island Light in the Straits of Mackinac. The 105-foot wide Great Lakes freighter is capable of carrying a 74,100-ton cargo of taconite or other materials.
