This is the first good sunset on a Tuesday that I have gotten to witness since the start of "Tuesdays with Todd and Brad Reed." My dad captured two decent sunsets earlier this year, but for the most part the Tuesday sunsets of 2012 have been pretty disappointing. That made me appreciate this sunset even more. I look forward to many more stunning sunsets along Lake Michigan on Tuesdays this year.

Hundreds of seagulls were having a feeding frenzy early this morning as the sun was turning the Lake Michigan shoreline in downtown Ludington beautiful colors. The high winds were creating breaking waves over the pier. Mornings like this make me feel so alive and thankful to live, work, and play in such a majestic area as Mason County.

The Ludington beach has been rated as one of the finest anywhere by various publications. I can see why as I watch beachgoers in action or simply relaxing. Others enjoy the hike on the Ludington breakwater to the lighthouse, which is open for tours most summer days.

Hiking out the breakwater to the Ludington lighthouse is a tradition for summer visitors and area residents. I enjoy the hike, but often I like to watch from a distance and photograph the people as added ingredients to my pictures.

July Bliss

Nothing says Ludington better than the carferry Badger and Ludington lighthouse. On this July evening the Lake Michigan Carferry passes the Ludington North Breakwater Light en route to its dock after ferrying passengers and vehicles from Wisconsin.

Sunlight pours through the portholes of the Ludington North Breakwater Lighthouse as the sun sets behind the landmark structure. I keep moving my tripod southward as the sun sets in order to keep the sun behind the tower. F4.0 at 1/200, ISO 100, 500 mm lens at 500 mm

The walkway leading to the Ludington North Inner Pierhead Light is a popular spot for viewing summer sunsets. On this summer night, it was the view from a boat that provided a unique perspective of the sunset.
