Give the Gift of Reading: Eagle Eyes!
Give the Gift of Reading: Eagle Eyes!

Your contribution of $275 will provide 20 second grade children with a book of their own, plus activity and curriculum worksheets based on the book. We are covering the discounted cost of the 20 books and the shipping and tax. Usually, the total retail price is $550. We chose 20 books because that is how many come in one box. Depending on how many children you would like to purchase books for in the classroom, you may need more than one box. We can choose one for you if you do not have a specific school.

We will ship the books directly to the school of your choice with a sign acknowledging that you purchased this gift for them. We will add you to our wall of sponsors located in our Ludington gallery and in digital form on our website. We can include a logo, business name, and direct link to your website.

We also have an animated 10-minute video of the book as part of a presentation that Todd, Brad, and/or Rachel hope to include in an assembly format to reach kids personally. Along with the animated video, we will engage the children in a question-and-answer session and have our puppet friend, Eagle Eye. We will donate our travel and lodging costs for each assembly experience fee of $300 to your chosen school.

Together, we can help provide books and encourage reading to the children of Michigan.

Venturing deeper into wildlife photography has been a wonderful challenge. We invested a lot of money into a 500-millimeter Nikon F4 lens and a new carbon fiber tripod designed for heavy telephoto lenses. We quickly learned that even with the best equipment, great wildlife photographs depend most of all on the light and capturing the defining moment. After a year of searching for the bald eagle shot I had always pre-visualized at the Ludington State Park, my luck changed on July 25, 2007.

Snow King
A local farm field is often a popular spot for Bald Eagles. The snowflakes on this particular day were thick and heavy. Several eagles were flying around, but this one sitting in the tree struck me. Even with all the snow, the white head and tail stood out beautifully.

On Eagle's Wings - Panoramic
Having multiple camera lenses is a blessing and a curse. After a long snowy hike back from Big Point Sable Lighthouse, I spotted six bald eagles in a row of tall white pines about a quarter mile ahead. Of course, I had my wide-angle lens on my camera, and I scrambled for my telephoto as each bird took flight and soared overhead. Once I had the proper equipment ready, a seventh bird, an immature bald eagle, came into view.

Soaring Eagle
Soaring Eagle
A brisk north wind on Hamlin Lake today is making it bouncy and wet on our 13-foot Boston Whaler, but the views are worth it. This is one of a pair of mature bald eagles circling high over the lake near Inspiration Point. People sing about being lifted up on eagle's wings; I can only imagine the feeling. Epworth Eagle
Epworth Eagle
I first spotted this bald eagle on the newly formed ice on Lincoln Lake right in front of Mount Epworth. By the time I stopped my truck and attached my big lens to my camera, the eagle had flown into this tree above the tennis courts at Epworth. I love how the eagle's head and the snow on the trees stand out as the only white objects in the photograph. F4 at 1/800, ISO 1600, 600mm lens at 600mm
