Todd Reed's Day 279 of 365
Who's watching over Bass Lake this morning? A manmade owl looms large as it faithfully performs its duty of trying to keep birds off a dock. I can't resist featuring the owl in one of my shots of the dock, lake and Three Sisters hills.

An American Moment
For the evening shoot of Week 30 of "Tuesdays with Todd and Brad Reed" I headed to the Western Michigan Fair in Ludington. My first stop was to photograph the truck and tractor pull. I am a huge fan of Chevy and GMC pickups and this one owned by Mike Tomac is about as awesome as it gets. Mike had one of the longest pulls of the night in the Hot Diesel Class.

Brad Reed's Day 279 of 365
This is the second photo in the 365 Project that I have made of the pumpkin patch and farm along Chauvez Road south of Ludington. I have been by at least five other times, but the light was never good enough. Early this morning however, the light was fantastic.

Pharaohs Fury
For years, this photograph has been living in my head and haunting me. I just hadn't gotten off my butt and made the image. After the truck and tractor pull, I got onto the Pharaoh's Fury ride inside the Midway at the Western Michigan fair. Towards the end of my three-minute gut-dropping ride, I finally figured out the best camera settings and angle to make this picture. It feels good to not be chasing ghosts anymore.

Todd Reed's Day 280 of 365
I have been trying to make an image of this tunnel of trees near the Conrad family farm at the east end of Conrad Road for several years. This evening, on my way home from a United Way fundraising event, I round the corner from Gordon Road and there it is, the picture I had envisioned for so long.

Fireworks at the Western Michigan Fair
For years I have heard from friends that the fireworks at the Western Michigan Fair are as good or better than the Fourth of July fireworks at the Ludington city beach. After experiencing both shows this year, my vote is for the Western Michigan Fair. I love music and it was cool that the fireworks display was timed perfectly to the music being played through the grandstand at the fair grounds.

Brad Reed's Day 280 of 365
My brother-in-law, Ben Verduin, and his wife Emily were married last summer at St. Cecilia Music Center in downtown Grand Rapids. Tonight as we all walked past the iconic building together on our way to dinner we noticed this tree that looked like it had been dipped in florescent paint.

Todd Reed's Day 281 of 365
Kevin and Nancy Hansen's farm on Victory Drive was one of several farms on this year's Mason County Barn Tour. I am attracted to one of many farm implements on display that were used for several decades by Kevin's grandfather.

Free Style
While Brad is using a wide-angle lens to photograph wake boarder James White, Bass Lake and the famous Three Sisters, I use a telephoto lens to make an up-close and personal image of the 15-year-old daredevil.

Brad Reed's Day 281 of 365
My wife's aunt, Robin Mulder, took Betsy and me to Ludema's Floral and Garden store in Grand Rapids to pick out flowers for my mother-in-law Sharon Verduin who had surgery today. The moisture in the greenhouse made my lens fog up, but I feel that added to this photograph of chrysanthemums.

Todd Reed's Day 282 of 365
I love the sense of adventure and scale of this image as I compose it in my viewfinder. Brad and I call this kind of shot "the little person in the big world." Lake Michigan is definitely a big world.

In the Moment
My dad knelt down in the warm waters of the Bass Lake Outlet this afternoon as he waited for the defining moment to happen in front of his camera.

Brad Reed's Day 282 of 365
One of our workshop students found this fungus growing at the bottom of a tree near the Beechwood Campground inside Ludington State Park. Lucky for me, she shared her special find with the rest of the group.

Island in the Stream
Looking at sunbathers on an island at the Bass Lake Outlet to Lake Michigan, I find myself wanting to sing a favorite Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton song about "Islands in the Stream." What a special piece of Michigan real estate this spot is!

Todd Reed's Day 283 of 365
A Sunday ride on an autumn afternoon is one of the best things about Michigan. I stop to take a picture of my favorite tunnel of trees at the Polcin farm on Conrad Road. Cheryl Swinehart and Boyd Stark crest a hill on a bicycle ride as I am shooting.

Swimming at Bass Lake Outlet
A beautiful breaking wave comes ashore this afternoon at the Bass Lake Outlet along the Lake Michigan shoreline near Pentwater, Michigan. In the distance a family is enjoying playing in the warm water of the outlet.

Brad Reed's Day 283 of 365
My dad is the master of making great art from old abandoned houses. I have photographed a few, but never had the same kind of success. When Betsy spotted this scene on south Stiles Road near Marrison Avenue, I instantly knew that the game was on between my dad and me.

Getting Wet
My dad and I try to turn photography into an action sport. We like to engage our subject. Often times that means getting wet
Todd Reed's Day 284 of 365
I love the rolling hills between Hart and New Era along the US 31 Freeway. Today as my nephew Ryan and I head to Grand Rapids for ArtPrize, I have to stop to photograph this farm surrounded by fall color.

One with the Great Lakes
My dad has lived on or near Lake Michigan his entire life. He drove Coast Guard boats on Lake Michigan for 33 years and has been capturing her beauty with his camera since 1971. My dad certainly is "One with the Great Lakes."
