Splendor In The Grass - Panoramic
In photography and in life, getting close to someone or something brings out feelings you have never felt before. That’s the kind of strong feelings I seek when I am fortunate enough to be on the Lake Michigan shoreline with my camera on an evening like this.
Midnight Sun
Of course there is no midnight sun in Michigan, but I could not resist naming this winter Lake Michigan shoreline image after the midsummer Arctic phenomenon.
Done Fishing
Fishermen saunter home after an evening of fishing on the Ludington North Breakwater.
Solitude
The first time I photographed Big Point Sable Lighthouse at night was in 1970. It was an assignment for a photography class at Michigan State University while pursuing a journalism degree. I continue to enjoy hiking to the light, setting up my tripod in the sand, waiting for darkness to fall and the light more than 100 feet overhead to beam forth. The solitude of the 30 to 45 minute walk, in the dark, back to my vehicle makes the photo trek to the lighthouse more gratifying.
Brad Reed's Day 15 of 365
Our handy man at the Ludington gallery is Mr. Don Klemm. Don is an avid photographer himself. He was so excited about the photo opportunities he visualized when he tore open a big hole in our gallery wall to fix a leaky old pipe. Don insisted I check it out. I am glad I did.

A Grand Adventure
During a two-boat, Coast Guard Auxiliary Safety Patrol from the Holland area to Muskegon, I wanted to make an image from the 44-foot patrol boat I am on of the 41-foot patrol boat passing by Coast Guard City USA, Grand Haven, Michigan. I am grateful to the Auxiliarists who have made this voyage possible for Brad and me. Nikon D800. F6.3 at 1/1600, ISO 800. 70-200mm lens at 82mm. Handheld without a flash. Cloud Chasers
M22 is always a beautiful drive no matter what time of year. On this gorgeous fall day, Rachel, Dustin, and I were on a shooting adventure. We couldn't resist stopping to photograph this iconic barn surrounded by brilliant fall color and stunning October clouds.
Ice-olated
I wonder how many winters this old commercial fishing tug has endured. Today it and its tender lie frozen in the ice on Pere Marquette Lake.

Die-Hard Angler
Chris "Uber" Raines loves the "peace and solitude" of wintertime fly fishing. "There is something almost magical about standing in the river as the water sweeps past you and the snow is coming down; it's mesmerizing," Raines explains during a brief time out.
