Lake Michigan Voyage
Steaming westward toward Wisconsin, the carferry Badger departs Ludington Harbor on one of its daily Lake Michigan crossings. The big ship carries passengers and autos back and forth between Michigan and Wisconsin from spring to fall in almost any kind of weather.
Big Lake Buck
Autumn along the Lake Michigan shoreline is a quieter time, a good time for spotting wildlife. On a November morning, this buck appeared along the high clay banks south of Ludington, in an area where no hunting is allowed.
White Lake Treasure
Today my son Ethan and I headed to Muskegon to go to his favorite arcade restaurant. Along the way on US31 near Whitehall, I noticed how beautiful the clouds were looking. I told Ethan that we were going to make a little detour to the White Lake Lighthouse to shoot some photos. He loves going on adventures with his old man.
Lake Leelanau - Panoramic
This is the first photograph I have ever made of this part of Lake Leelanau. I didn't realize until today how large or how beautiful the lake is. Today is proving to be one of the best Wednesdays for photography so far in 2014.

Hamlin Lake 3-D - Panoramic
When I was working up this aerial photograph of Hamlin Lake on the computer, I noticed how three-dimensional this image was. The shadow on the north edge of the lake makes the trees and homes off of Nurnberg Road appear to be coming off the page.

Autumn at Portage Lake
It is a glorious morning and I am blessed to be traveling M22 today looking for fall color pictures and anything else that catches my photographic eye. Just north of Onekama I turn off the highway and find myself with a spectacular birds eye view of beautiful Portage Lake.
Enjoying Duck Lake
I had already seen a dramatic storm front image Brad made less than two weeks earlier at Duck Lake Outlet. Not a person was in sight when Brad took that picture. Here I am on an August afternoon less than two weeks later with the opportunity to show an entirely different Michigan mood at the same popular spot. Today the outlet is packed with swimmers and sunbathers.
Duck Lake Outlet
Last week my daughter Julia and I discovered a new road we had not ever driven on. We took Scenic Drive from Whitehall all the way to the Muskegon State Park. Along the way we passed over the Duck Lake Outlet. The light was not good that night, but I knew that I would be back to that spot soon when the conditions were better. Last night I left Ludington about 5:15pm and drove back down to the Duck Lake Outlet. I had no cell signal, but I could see a shelf cloud coming toward me over Lake Michigan. Just before 8pm the storm was on top of me and it started to pour. This was my last shot of the night, and then I ran for cover.
Lake Michigan Lava
The sand along the Lake Michigan shoreline looks like liquid gold tonight. It is incredible how a late September sunset can transform the appearance of the waterfront.
Brad Reed's Day 57 of 366
I am blessed to have a large family and a lot of roots in Mason County. Today I was exploring some land that one of my family members owns on the Lincoln River.
Stillness on the Lake
A local ice fisherman sits patiently on Lincoln Lake today hoping to catch his limit. My dad had spotted this scene while taking my grandma to a doctor's appointment. Luckily for me, he called on his cell phone to tell me about it. A few minutes later, I made this image.
