Brad Reed\'s Day 173 of 366 - June 21, 2020
Brad Reed's Day 173 of 366 - June 21, 2020
My dad and my Uncle Budde have always loved to race each other on foot or by car, truck, or boat. To say they are competitive is an understatement. Today they raced their tritoons on Hamlin Lake. The best part was seeing the devilish grins on both their faces.

Out of the Mist
Out of the Mist
The symmetry of this tiny Hamlin Lake island at Ludington State Park has caught my eye for several years. I tried many times to make a photograph that portrayed its symmetry in a special way. At last, one spring day Mother Nature provided the perfect atmosphere. The island was barely visible in the early morning mist. I composed a picture, set up the tripod and waited. Soon the island emerged out of the mist just enough to appear extraordinary. The view made my entire day extraordinarily great.

Night Flight
Night Flight
Hamlin Lake is one of Michigan's largest man-made lakes and is certainly one of the most popular. The lake is named after Hannibal Hamlin, who was Vice President of United States under Abraham Lincoln. He lived before the advent of human flight, so sadly, he never got to see this view of his namesake.

Clouds Are Your Friends
Clouds Are Your Friends
My dad is fond of saying, "Clouds are your friends!" This photograph is all about the quality of the light that is bouncing off the clouds and onto the water.

Morning Lift
Morning Lift
Coffee gives me a morning lift but not like the sun working its magic on Bass Lake. I love the quietness of this midweek lull before the traditional Memorial Day weekend invasion of this and hundreds of other Michigan lakes. Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer for many Michigan resort areas. D800, F8 at 1/640, ISO 800, 70-200mm lens at 100mm

Island Trail From Above
Island Trail From Above
The Island Trail at Ludington State Park has always been one of my favorite places to hike with my family and friends. Today, I enjoyed photographing it while hanging out of an airplane window. The wind and angle of the sunlight created interesting patterns on the water.

The Golden Sunrise
It never gets old photographing the sunrise at the north bridge on Old US31 over the Pere Marquette River flats. This morning, my dad and I are greeted with a unique cloud pattern and a powerful sunrise.

Sauble Sunset
Sauble Sunset
Just before dusk at the Sauble River Outlet, magic light broke out from beneath a cloud layer, highlighting the water's edge. The afterglow made the wait along the Lake Michigan shoreline worthwhile. My son Brad, my nephew Ryan, and I each took our approach to photographing the light.

Awakening
Awakening
Standing on top of Desperation Point looking over Hamlin Lake, I was awestruck by the calm that surrounded me on this warm summer morning. The water was a mirror of tiny ripples, the wind was gently blowing, and the birds were just starting to sing. Just after making this photograph, I watched a bald eagle fly below me and dip into Hamlin Lake to catch a fish in its mighty talons. This is a morning I will never forget.

Still Waters
Still Waters
As steam rose from the still waters of Silver Lake, the sun peaked over the trees and illuminated the scene before me. I captured this image early in the morning before the daily barrage of boaters flock to their playground.
