Traveling by horse and buggy is a way of life for the Amish families who have settled iin Riverton and the surrounding areas. On the verge of spring. I was photographing a Riverton farm near sunset when a horse and buggy came down Hawley Road at a fast pace. Even though the Amish choose a simpler way of life, they always seem to be on the move, undaunted by hard work, or lack of life's luxuries. I appreciate that they always seem to have time to give a cheerful wave as they pass by.

While growing up, my grandpa, Bill Marble, had a reddish horse named Rose. I thought she was beautiful and have always liked horses that color. Today, not far from Fremont, Michigan my dad and I stumbled upon this gorgeous red rider.

Too magical to be real, a white horse made an already beautiful Michigan fall color view truly magnificent. One never knows what wonder will appear when traveling the byways of West Michigan.

I feel like I can look into the heart and soul of this horse as I view it up close and personal through my camera. Brad and I discovered this gorgeous creature along county highway B31 near Fremont during a more than 250-mile Tuesday photo excursion along West Michigan highways and byways.

Friends had told me about a white horse pastured along old U.S. 31 between Ludington and Pentwater. On several photo trips in that direction I never saw the horse. As my son Brad and I drove to Pentwater one evening to photograph some summer scenes, I spotted a white horse. Undoubtedly, this was the horse and the scene that had excited others. I was thankful for the tips and the opportunity to make the photograph.

Titan is the most beautiful animal I have ever seen. He is a Friesian, a horse breed that originated in Friesland, in the Netherlands. My friends, Jonathan and Shannon Ray, own Titan. Like a lot of Friesian horses, Titan is well trained to be able to move gracefully, yet powerfully, in circles around his trainers.

A mare and its foal look like they are attached at the hip as they graze in their pasture north of Fremont. I am struck by how synchronized they graze, walk ahead a few steps, then resume grazing side by side.

On several past visits to Fremont, I was struck by the "Out West" look of the rolling hills in the farm and ranch lands between Hesperia and Fremont. This morning Brad and I started scouting for shots along the Lake Michigan shoreline in Holland. But when billowy cumulus clouds began decorating the eastern sky we knew if we drove 100 miles northeast to Fremont we could find a foreground like this to put in front of such a "big sky country" backdrop.

Today for Week 15 of "Tuesdays with Todd and Brad Reed: A Michigan Tribute," our gallery managers, Sarah Genson and Rachel Shoup Gaudette, and I shot photos at Rachel's parents' farm on First Street, east of Custer. As Sarah and I were driving to the farm, we spotted these two horses in the Shoup's field. Meet my new friend, Bud. Bud is one of the world famous Budweiser Clydesdales. The Clydesdales are in the Ludington area for a week to help celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Ludington Beverage Company. The rolling hills and seemingly endless rows of fences of the meticulously maintained Waltons horse ranch south of Traverse City, Michigan has always caught my eye. Michigan abounds with new life in spring. I love traveling the countryside looking for views like this one along Iris Road in Mason County.

Maybe it is because I am short, but I have always liked big things. I like big trucks, big guns, and big horses. Being the fourth generation of a family that owns an Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship, I have always been partial to the Budweiser Clydesdales. When I photographed these two Friesian horses today south of Ludington, I was mesmerized by their size and grace.

I am sizing up a sunrise shot of the carferry Badger when my cell phone rings. My wife Debbie has scouted out a picture for me of horses at West Shore Equestrian Center on Sugar Grove Road on her way to Nursing School at West Shore Community College. When I spotted this wintry scene south of Ludington, it immediately reminded me of a famous picture long used to promote Steamboat ski resort in Colorado. I always loved that picture and I loved the one that was in front of my eyes just a few miles from my home.

Becky Scott, our neighbor at Cherry Hill Farm, called me and asked if I would photograph their newest horse on their farm. I got in the corral as the young horse ran circles around me.

My aunt and uncle and his family own this barn on Conrad Road. Ron Soberalski keeps his two large draft horses on their property. On this foggy morning, Ron’s horses were the perfect added ingredients that this scene needed.

My kids had their first day of downhill skiing today! They crashed hard asleep in the van on our way home from Crystal Mountain when I spotted this stunning silhouette. The flow of the tail was the finishing touch.

Some of my favorite Christmas tree ornaments that my family has are the rocking horses that Hallmark put out in the 1980s. This last Christmas, I enjoyed pointing them out to my daughter Julia.
