My dad is fond of saying, "Clouds are your friends!" This photograph is all about the quality of the light that is bouncing off the clouds and onto the water.

The God beams, bright blue sky, clouds below my feet, and the tropical-looking Lake Michigan water made me feel like I was actually floating on the clouds today when I made this photograph. Standing in the parking lot at Captain Chuck's Great Outdoors in Ludington, my six-year-old daughter Julia commented on how pretty the clouds were. The clouds were gorgeous in every direction. I grabbed my camera and looked for the prettiest cloud formation. Julia is getting so good at recognizing the beautiful world around her and for that I am grateful. For years I have been seeing photos on Facebook of fall color at the Lake of the Clouds inside the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Earlier this year my dad and I decided that we would head to the Lake of the Clouds during peak color for our Tuesdays Project. I am so glad we did. It is one of the most beautiful views in all of America. I shot this photo in total darkness an hour before sunrise. I love that digital cameras see in the dark.
