Holland Beauties
Holland Beauties
Tulip Time in Holland, Michigan is always a fun and beautiful celebration to be a part of. Team Reed loves to explore all the public tulip gardens with our cameras. We recommend photographing the tulips with the largest telephoto lens that you can so that you can have a super shallow depth of field. I shot these with a 600mm lens with a 1.4 extender at 850mm.

Au Sable Light Reflected in Lake Superior
Au Sable Light Reflected in Lake Superior
I have always enjoyed the challenge of building strong, unique compositions utilizing reflections. In order to get the building, red roof, and tower of Au Sable Point Lighthouse to show up in the reflection, I had to lie on my stomach in Lake Superior. Thankfully, it has been a record breaking warm winter, but the water temperature still had my full attention. F8 at 1/200, ISO 100, 18-50mm lens at 18mm

Holland Standouts
I can get lost every spring in the beauty of gardens full of tulips in Holland, Michigan. I love studying all that color and finding the picture within the picture - a tulip or two that stands out in the crowd.

Scottville Tradition
Scottville Tradition
Farming remains a major, vital industry throughout Michigan, including Scottville. I admire farmers like Tyler Martz who have the work ethic and expertise to till the land. Martz was preparing this field for planting asparagus. The grain storage and other structures of Acres Co-Op, Inc. tower behind Martz's tractor.

In Trout Heaven
In Trout Heaven
Being a guide on the Pere Marquette River involves a lot of work, so being asked to stop and fish while guiding for a couple of photographers is, for Uber Raines, like being sent to trout heaven. I think this view shows why the Pere Marquette was chosen as a National Wild & Scenic River to preserve the natural beauty of the river and control public access to it. Josh\'s Office
Josh's Office
Today we took a guided photo tour down the "fly only" zone of the Pere Marquette River near Baldwin. Our guide, Josh Mead, works for the Pere Marquette River Lodge. A few years ago Josh gave up the corporate rat race and became a full time guide and his new office is the Pere Marquette River. I think he is on to something! A Welcomed Retreat
A Welcomed Retreat
After a brisk 30-minute hike to the north end of the Island Trail at the Ludington State Park, I was very relieved to take a rest inside this old warming shelter. My camera bag weighs over 30 pounds and it traps a lot of heat as I walk. The 10-minute rest I took lying on my back almost turned into an hour-long nap. Once the magic light of the golden sunrise appeared though, I was instantly rejuvenated and quickly made this photograph. F8 at 1/30, ISO 100, 18-50mm lens at 18mm

Artful Pursuits
Pere Marquette River Lodge fishing guide Drew Johnson uses his skills to precisely cast his line into a trout fishing hole while photographer Bill Dietrich uses his skill to precisely compose and expose fly fishing photographs from Johnson's drift boat. Both are absorbed in their pursuits on a May afternoon on the Pere Marquette. F3.5 at 1/800, ISO 400, 80-200mm lens at 135mm

 Orchard
The Orchard at my parent’s farm may not be what people typically think of when they hear the word “orchard”. A lot of them assume we have several acres of trees, and although it might be small compared to many, it’s ours. The lilac bushes that surround the orchard might not be world class, but they’re ours. The tire swing hanging in the middle of these might seem ordinary to others, but not to us. My family has made many memories while playing baseball in the orchard, hide and seek in the lilacs, and of course being pushed on that tire swing. They’re one of the first things you see when turning into the driveway after a long day of traveling, and once your headlights hit them, you can breathe a sigh of relief because you’re “home”. Now, as my siblings and I have our own children, they too know that feeling, and are busy making their own memories in the orchard, lilacs, and Papa’s tire swing (as my two kids call it). These memories will last forever, and will continue to grow for generations to come.
