Other Lake Superior
Superior Shipwreck
Timbers and exposed iron bolts are all that remain of the Mary Jarecki, one of the many ships to founder along the Lake Superior shoreline. The shapes and patterns of the shipwreck fascinate me.

Lake Superior Rocks - Panoramic
Distortion is not a bad thing in photography; you just need to be aware it is happening and compose strong images working with the distortion. My underwater camera housing is set up to use my old Nikon D7000 camera body along with a fisheye 10-17mm lens. I made this image at 11mm knowing it would be greatly distorted, but I really liked the end result.

Ice Art
My dad and I would probably never have ventured across the ice on Lake Superior to the Grand Island Ice Caves if it were not for Facebook. We both spend a lot of time on Facebook looking at other Michigan photographer's work. Several people had been posting excellent photographs of the ice caves near Munising, Michigan and we knew we had to go. We called our friends Mike Schlitt, Bill Dietrich, and Wally Barkley and the five of us made the journey to Grand Island.

Superior - Panoramic
I was excited to discover the colorful rocks on the bottom of Lake Superior at Twelve Mile Beach would reflect on the underside of the surface of the water. Once I made this discovery using my underwater camera housing, I quickly tried to build a composition in my mind that would be powerful and unique. After having the vision, it was just a matter of changing my location and waiting for a big enough wave.

Superior Force - Panoramic
The rugged Lake Superior shoreline at Whitefish Point is a golden place to be on this August evening. Uprooted elsewhere by the power of Lake Superior waves, these trees have been carried by wind and wave energy to this prominent point and driven ashore. Seeing the forces of nature at work is one of the most fascinating aspects of being an outdoor photographer.

Sundance
Growing up we had a beautiful yellow Labrador Retriever named Sundance. She loved to spend time along the shores of Lake Michigan. Like many labs, she had an amazing ability to retrieve sticks. Sundance however, had a unique ability to retrieve rocks thrown into Lake Michigan. Somehow she could find the exact rock you had thrown on the lake bottom. These rocks on Lake Superior reminded me of Sundance and made me miss her.

Peaceful Pursuit
A fisherman has a stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline near Hurricane River Outlet all to himself. What a peaceful way to enjoy a next to last day of winter that looks and feels more like summer.

Boiling Water
The Hurricane River Outlet looks like a boiling caldron tonight as melted snow dramatically increases the flow of water downstream to Lake Superior. This spot between Munising and Grand Marais is one of my favorite places in Michigan's fabulous Upper Peninsula.

Rocky Top
It is rainy and, my heart might say, dreary. My mind, however, has been trained to know that cameras do not see like our eyes and hearts. So I am shooting away on the Lake Superior shoreline at Marquette, making my first images ever of the historic Marquette Harbor Lighthouse. My heart is pleased with the outcome.
