Native American Dancer
Native American Todd Brewer showcases his traditional Indian attire and his dancing skills at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan. Brewer works in Northern Michigan as a paramedic and fireman. I admire his devotion to his heritage as well as his dedication to helping others in times of need.

Todd Reed's Day 250 of 365
The Badger steams through stormy waves toward the Ludington pierheads. Watching the sturdy ship and its crew battle the elements makes for exciting live drama. I imagine many of the carferry passengers are not enjoying the ride as much as I am enjoying watching.

Michigan Grown
One of the features I enjoy at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City is the booths featuring Michigan cherry products. The sight of these sweet and tart cherries at the Cherry Connection, Edmondson Orchards booth is making my wife and me very hungry as we make this picture. Summer in Michigan is never complete for us without eating Michigan sweet cherries and cherry pie. These sweet and tart cherries were grown on the Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City.

Brad Reed's Day 250 of 365
While trying to shoot some photos of people salmon fishing near the twin bridges in Ludington, I decided to turn my attention towards the beautiful cattails along the southern shore. With the blowing wind, I had to time it right with the correct angle and a good cloud pattern behind.

Carrying on the Tradition
I am looking through my viewfinder at one of the most color-rich scenes I have ever seen as Native American children dance toward me at the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City, Michigan. I love that these children are learning to carry on the traditions of their ancestors.

The Buttersville beach is a quieter place today. The busy Labor Day weekend is over and the absence of people along Lake Michigan accentuates the fall look.

Free Gull
I would like to be as wise about birds and as in sync with them as so many Native Americans have learned to be through generations of careful observation and the passing on of knowledge of their ways. This gull seems to me to be a free spirit as it passes right over my head at the Native American Pow Wow at the National Cherry Festival. I am sure some of the Indians who saw the bird found meaning in its appearance.

Brad Reed's Day 251 of 365
The Centenary United Methodist Church in downtown Pentwater, Michigan was built in 1867. For years I have tried to make a photograph of the church that showed its grandeur and beauty, but was never satisfied with the results until today.

On my way to WKLA to talk on the radio about the importance and value to our community of donating to United Way of Mason County I see my picture of the day along the Pere Marquette River. I pull off the road, run to the water's edge, compose and shoot. Sometimes pictures come fast and easy.

Brad Reed's Day 252 of 365
My dad and I had several friends call and email us about the fields of pumpkins and squash along Chauvez Road south of Ludington. I photographed these just in time. The farmers and their equipment were right behind me getting ready to make their harvest.

I am having a hard time resisting picking one of these apples along Pere Marquette Highway but my ethics keep me concentrating on photographing them instead of eating them. I am not sure whose apples they are but I am glad the grower appears to have a good crop to harvest despite the heavy frost this spring.

Bluegill
I have fished for bluegill on Hamlin Lake since before I could walk, but I have never tried to photograph one. Today my cousin Logan Sanzeri and I went on a photographic hunt for bluegill on Indian Pete Bayou. Within a few minutes, this beautiful fish swam right up to my underwater camera and posed for this photograph.

Ludington High School junior Boyd Meeker looks downfield as a Muskegon Orchard View player sets his eyes on the ball. The Orioles played very well tonight, but they could not stop Orchard View's running game.

Perch
I love to eat perch, especially at Scotty's restaurant in Ludington. Today was the first time I have tried to photograph a perch. It proved to be more difficult than photographing a bluegill, but the hunt was equally thrilling.

Todd Reed's Day 254 of 365
My wife spotted the color in the sky as we were just starting to have our morning coffee together. She knows if she tells me about the light our coffee hour is over; she tells me anyway. Two minutes later I am shooting one of the best sunrises of the year as salmon fishing boats troll past the Badger and Spartan on Pere Marquette Lake.

Banningas View
Mike and Nancy Banninga have a beautiful home on upper Hamlin Lake. The home is actually built out over the water. The lower level of the home is a two-stall boathouse and the upper lever is the living area. I have fond memories of spending time in their house as a kid while playing with their son Adam and their daughter Heidi. This photograph shows part of the view that the Banningas get to enjoy year round.

M-116 is a short Michigan highway, but it is one of the most beautiful in the entire state. Todd and Brad Reed Photography, House of Flavors, the Skate Park, Stearns Park, Cartier Park, Epworth, Lincoln Hills Golf Club, and Ludington State Park are just a few of the attractions along M-116.

The North Shore
Over the last 15 years the number of new houses and cottages built on the north shore of Hamlin Lake has exploded. Most of the homes border Hamlin Lake on one side and the Manistee National Forest on the other.

Todd Reed's Day 255 of 365
I have long wanted to photograph the lighthouse on White Lake near Whitehall. Today, finally, I am here on my way back from hanging the photograph I entered in the ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids. The White River Light Station, built in 1876 and now a museum, looks storybook perfect.

Betsy, Ethan, and I all have the flu today. It has not been a fun day to say the least, but making a photo of the day in our backyard does take my mind off of being sick for a little while.
